A baby boy who was born on a plane has been named after his mother, an airline, and man who helped deliver him.
Baby Jet Star’s mother, a Myanmar national who wanted to remain anonymous, was on board the Jetstar flight 3K583 from Singapore to Myanmar when she gave birth. A report by CNN said that the delivery was conducted by a team of three doctors and crew after landing in Yangon.
The baby’s first name is Saw Jet Star–Saw being the name of the airline’s customer service manager Saw Ler Htu, who helped with the delivery. It also so happens that part of the mother’s name is Star.
The airline announced the birth on Twitter: “First baby born on Jetstar flight! Congrats to mum and baby, all well in Yangon now.”
“Our crew are trained to respond to all kinds of events on our aircraft, and we’re proud of the way they assisted with the help of generous doctors onboard to ensure the safe delivery of our youngest ever passenger on a Jetstar Asia flight,” said a spokesman.
In a Facebook post, the airline also wrote: “We’re most pleased to announce that a baby boy, named Saw Jet Star, was delivered safely onboard 3K583 by a team of doctors and the crew after the flight landed in Yangon on Friday, 22 April 2016.”
The three doctors who helped out also requested to stay anonymous.
The airline said that they will be giving SGD 1,000 worth of baby supplies to the family.
“The Jetstar crew on board 3K583 led by Customer Service Manager, Mr Saw Ler Htu exercised utmost care and concern for the passenger, calling for medical assistance on board the aircraft when required,” added the statement. “Jetstar would also like to commend the three medical doctors for stepping in to provide the medical support.”
Jet Star and his mother are both in good health and now out of the hospital. They were recently visited by Mr Saw Ler Htu to deliver gifts.
